You remember the stories about children stolen by fairies, switching changelings with these human babies at birth? About men and woman courted by fairies, even children born from such matings? How about babies touched by fae magic because of their pleasure or displeasure with the human parents. All these stories are true, and even more. These children gifted or cursed with the blood and magic of the fae folk are called Wildlings. 

The appearance of the fae-touched children can greatly differ, but generally speaking they look much like any human. The difference is in what lies deep inside them. Some children show unexpected abilities from very young, while others do not awaken until much later. Even a few of the most remarkable ones will only awaken to their magic when a particular event occurs, but then wow, watch out. 

The typical way magic shows itself though a Wildling child is in psionics of some sort. Thought not the only abilities that can surface things such as telepathy, energy manipulation, precondition, clairaudience, clairvoyance, psychokinesis, pyrokinesis (though this is far rarer), aerokinesis, empathy, dream walking, astral projection, and psychomitry are just a few examples of what abilities might present themselves with a Wildling awakens.

The most dangerous part of an awakening in this day and age is a Wildling child is rarely in an environment that can handle such a transformation. So many of these special children have been lost through generation away from their fae kin, or even because if their change being a momentary whim, easily forgotten by the fae who caused it. Still far more often are the Wildling children stolen by the fae enemies and hidden among human families using normal seeming adoptions. 

The consequences of these children being lost in a human word is that either the find a way to cope with there magic when they awaken or they go mad from them. Besides that death is the only release, and happens far to often at the Wildling own hand or because they have fallen into the grasp of an enemy they never even knew existed. 

So please, if a child is born to your family or adopted into your home, and they display these sorts of gift, nurture them. They need guidance and love, not judgment. Do these things and your Wildling child will blossom into an amazing being indeed.
